Last March, my step-sister and her husband announced they were on the road to adoption. They felt a strong calling and started researching adoption in June of 2016. A big part of their desire to adopt stems from the fact that they both know people who have been touched by adoption, including her mom and Josh’s cousin. Most importantly, they wanted to adopt because they LOVE children and were ready to start their family.
By November, Krissi and Josh had gone through an 8-week course called the Adoption Academy put on by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Capital Law School. They learned about the adoption process, the requirements, international adoption, domestic adoption, financing an adoption, specific medical/psychiatric issues common in adoptees and even heard from a panel of people including adoptive parents, adoptees, and a birth mother.
Two months later, they found the perfect adoption agency. It was time to start the application process. They submitted all the required paperwork and then completed their home study. Which consisted of meeting with their agency social worker to evaluate whether they meet the standards set by the state of Ohio to parent a child. So. Much. Paperwork!!
This is when the waiting began, which was the hardest part.
In June 2017, Josh and Krissi were matched with a birth mother who chose them to be her child’s adoptive parents. They were lucky enough to meet both parents before any official decision was made but they knew this was the one.
August 5th, Audrey Lane graced the world with her presence. Making me an aunt for a second time!! I am thrilled to share the beautiful images from Krissi and Josh's adoption announcement and her newborn session, especially because some of them had a Harry Potter theme. Ha!
Welcome to the world, baby girl!! Auntie loves you!!
